Dog Obedience Training Classes

Chasing Tails Dog Obedience Training offers several training options for classes. Classes are held outside where there are real world distractions and the dog’s natural drives and motivation are utilized in the training process. My training methods are reward/correction based in order to teach the dog which behaviors get the positive results and which behaviors have appropriate consequences. Proper leash handling skills are taught in the class so that you master how and when to give an appropriate leash correction and what common mistakes to avoid.

Basides the basic commands, I will cover house breaking, body language (yours and the dogs’), how to introduce your dog to another dog on leash, and any specific problems that you are experiencing with your dog at home or out on your walks.

Puppy Preschool

• puppies 9 – 14weeks
• private in-home training

Puppies at this early age can learn the commands to sit, down, come and to walk on leash. In addition, puppies need to learn bite inhibition, socializing with people and other dogs. I will also introduce some training games that are fun. I will cover these and more in the preschool for puppies. Cost: $35/hour

Puppy Classes

• puppy group or private in-home training classes
• puppies up to 5 months old

This 5 week class consists of puppy socialization, practicing the sit, down, come, and stay commands. Cost: $140

Beginner Basic Obedience level 1

• 5 months and older old dogs learn new tricks too

Your dog will learn to respond quicker and more reliably to your commands and will be tested on how he deals with low-level distractions. I will show you how to use your dogs’ drive and motivation to keep his attention while performing the basic commands. This course is 6 weeks long. Cost: $140

Basic Obedience level 2 (Progression to off-leash)

• must have completed a beginner class from a certified trainer

This class is 5 weeks in duration and is the class where you and your dog really begin to shine. We will increase the duration of sit/stays, down/stays and heeling while increasing the level of distractions. You will begin long line training as a transition to off-leash. Cost: $150

Private Consultation/Training

For those wanting one-on-one work either to deal with a specific behavioral problem or for the basic training, i offer private classes at your convenience. Cost: $35/hour

Dog Walking

Chasing Tails also offers dog-walking services and daytime puppy visits. As a great alternative to a doggie daycare, your dog will be exercised and socialized while you are at work and you can return home to a calmer dog. See the tab titled Dog Walking Rates for more information.
